My Tyler Durden Moment
Jan. 2nd, 2008 03:06 pmI was out this morning taking pictures at Woodlawn Cemetery. I got some great pictures. This was definitely the right time to go, because there were still a lot of Christmas and New Year’s displays up. I got some nice pictures of a couple Japanese grave markers with satsuma and mochi offerings. On my way back I decided to stop at the little body shop at Michigan and 14th to take a picture of their Master Charge sign. As I walked back up 14th on my way home I stopped off at Imperial Records. Imperial is, or was, a CD pressing company. In May of last year it burned. The shell of the building is being cleared out.
As I stood snapping pictures an elderly gentleman walked up to me and made me think of Fight Club.
“Hey, how ya doin’? You’re taking pictures now, eh?”
“Yep. I figure it’s happening in the neighborhood, so I should document it.”
“Oh, sure.”
“Yeah. I wasn’t here when it burned, so I’m taking pictures of the clean-up. What do you suppose they’re going to do with this?”
“Oh, they’re gonna rebuild it. See? They left the walls intact.”
“Yeah, makes sense.”
“Well, I’ll see you around. Have a good day!”
“See ya.”
And he walked off. The way he reacted to me made me think he thought he knew me. Very odd. It made me wonder if I’ve got a split personality who runs around while I think I’m sleeping.
