I are a pretty flower
Jul. 4th, 2009 09:31 pmSo today I got my very first manicure/pedicure. Cost me $35 at O.Nail. I felt a little self-conscious sitting in the chair, but our friend Alexander was with me in guy mode, so maybe they just assumed we were a couple of drag queens or something. Who knows? Who cares? I didn't get the name of the woman who did my nails because she was very quiet and reserved, which suits me. I'm not always comfortable with talking to strangers. I think the bigger problem was that she didn't actually speak English all that well. Whatever. She did a great job!
Even if I all I ever got was a clear coat on my nails afterward, I think I'd do this again and again if we had the cash for it. My mother-in-law used to go someplace near our office to get her nails done, and I TOTALLY understand why now. It's so relaxing letting someone else do your nails. She was very thorough, and my nails were kind of nasty to begin with, so I think this might be the best shape they've ever been in. God, I feel so girly! I love it! My toes are this nice dark sort of eggplant colour, and my fingers are a really subtle pearlescent pink. They're a shinier than my natural nails, but they're about the same colour, so if the aforementioned mother-in-law should stop by unannounced I'd only have to cover up my tootsies. :)

The occasion was a 4th of July BBQ that some of Alexander's friends were having. I bet the party is still going on right now. There were lots of transwomen there, plus a few other apparently normal folks. Whatever "normal" means, eh? ;) It was the first time I've ever been out in public (even though this was a private space) where I could be myself. I feel like a little kid compared to these people though. I'm so tiny and undeveloped as a person, but these women were all well-developed people. Well, I'm growing now, at last.
